“Race Horse Series”

I grew up around horses. I as child my mother's passion for having horses carried over to the whole family and my siblings and I rode almost on a daily basis. We rode in numerous horse shows taking home a handful of ribbons and trophies each weekend. My mother became interested in horse races and was the first female jockey at Blue Ribbon Downs in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. I remember cooling her horses down at times and almost being trampled upon while walking them around in open areas close to the racetrack.

As a teen I rode in the Dandy's at the Old Fort Days Rodeo and also was choosen Greenwood Rodeo Queen back in my high school days. For several years, both my parents rode in the Booneville Quadrille, a square-dance on horseback, similar to the Dandy's.

My brother, Johnny B. became a bullrider in high school and after several serious injuries turned to team roping as his favorite pastime. He now trains horses professionally and turns out winning roping horses for clients. My mother, Linda, still has some of her prized winning race horses that she trained, now retired, and loves horses as much as she did forty years ago.

I have taken my interests in horses to the canvas. I don't have any horses now but highly appreciate this animal's strenghth, intelligence, agility, and endurance. Not only that, they are just beautiful creatures to watch. My goal is to capture the essence of their personalities and ability in my paintings.
