Red Lady & Zebra Series
“A Personal Journey ”This series is my most significant and personal series. Each figurative painting tells a story of an event that happened to me and how I felt during a crucial time in my life.
The Red Lady is a visual narrative of Lisa and the Zebra is my inner soul/trustworthy companion. The dove represents whether or not there is peace in that story and the vegetation is a reflection the world around me. I don’t normally create a lot of sketches before painting but ‘The Red Lady and Zebra’ drawings always consume the pages of my sketch book.
I chose the zebra I believe because I grew up around horses. I rode in rodeos and horse shows most of my childhood until I was 18. The zebra being the wild cousin of the horse just seemed like a natural fascination of mine with the high contrast of color and untamed character.
The red lady is an expressive woman full of passion, desire, and radiance. In some pictures you will see her strong...in others she is weak...and yet another she is a seductress. She is the center of focus and you see her at different stages of her womanhood. She is vulnerable to her environment and depends on the zebra for strength and understanding.
